Jonas Brothers to make feature film starring debut in "Farting Dog"

Another hot Disney Channel act is poised to make a bigscreen splash at 20th Century Fox.

Fox has locked the Jonas Brothers to make their feature starring debut in "Walter the Farting Dog." Based on a bestselling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the film is being adapted by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen into a family film that will revolve around Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas, as well as their younger brother Frankie.

Pic shoots next spring and is a potential directing project for Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who'll produce with Bradley Thomas through the trio's Conundrum banner.

The Jonas Brothers have become wildly popular through the boy band's appearances playing music and acting in such Disney Channel programming as the telepic "Camp Rock." Frankie, known as the bonus Jonas has also gained a profile appearing with his brothers.

The title character in the "Walter" books is a fat dog with severe flatulence. The brothers play musicians whose parents are asked to care for the dog by an aunt just before she passes away.

"By the time they've driven the dog home, everybody's head is out the window of the family station wagon but Frankie, and only because he has a serious sinus problem and doesn't notice the stench coming from Walter," said Peter Farrelly.

While his brothers play music, Frankie and the gaseous hound get involved in a plot that involves liberating a koi fish and thwarting jewel thieves.

The studio sees a potential franchise in "Walter," and the scribes have been involved in hatching the franchises "Toy Story" and "Garfield." They were also co-writers of the remake "Cheaper by the Dozen."

Reelfx's Tom Kartsotis and Steve O'Brien will be exec producers.

The Jonas Brothers are repped by CAA and managed by Kevin Jonas and Phil Levine.

Disney Channel's Smash Hit "Camp Rock" Licensed To 78 International Territories

This year's hottest music-filled movie is rocking its way on to yet more TV screens in 78 territories across the world, as new deals build upon its existing success on international Disney Channels. New free TV, pay TV and basic cable agreements for Disney Channel Original Movie "Camp Rock" have been announced today by Disney-ABC-ESPN Television, and include territories such as Australia, France, Turkey and Switzerland.

"Camp Rock" had its European free television launch, on ProSieben in Germany, on 20th September, where it ranked as the #1 highest rated live action movie broadcast on ProSieben in 2008 with all Kids 3-13 and Kids 10-13. Its recent premiere on both Portugal's free television channel SiC and Spain's Cuatro saw the highly anticipated feature achieve #1 in its timeslot with individuals, kids and teens in Portugal, and with kids and teens in Spain.

Across free television, pay television and basic cable, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television has concluded agreements which will see "Camp Rock" reach 78 territories to date, with launches upcoming on channels such as M6 in France, Kanal D Turkey, ERT Greece, RTS Serbia, The Movie Network Australia, Seven Network Australia, TVNZ New Zealand, and the BBC in the UK.

Combined with its phenomenal success on Disney Channels around the world "Camp Rock" has now reached over 74 million total viewers worldwide.

Ben Pyne, president, Global Distribution, Disney Media Networks, commented: "Camp Rock has been enormously successful in its Disney Channel window, and we have very high expectations for free TV in all territories. Working closely with Disney Channel, we are maximizing the potential of key franchise properties such as Camp Rock, and bringing the best in kids and family entertainment to new markets across the globe."

"Camp Rock" stars pop sensations Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, and follows the story of a talented yet unsure teenager, and a hot-headed young popstar who's lost his passion for music and needs to find it again, and is sent packing to Camp Rock by his band mates. Together, at Camp Rock for aspiring young music artists, they learn to believe in themselves and to value the freedom to be who they really want to be - all to a rocking soundtrack.

Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift to perform at RodeoHouston 2009

Alongside Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers are scheduled to perform at next year's RodeoHouston, it was announced today by Leroy Shafer, the rodeo's chief operating officer.

Nick Jonas and his brothers are expected to play on March 8 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas while Swift will take the event's stage on March 20. "We're thrilled about this presentation," Shafer shares his excitement concerning the upcoming stars-studded show. "To bring both of these acts in is just a tremendous coup for us. It's been our purpose throughout the years to provide affordable family entertainment to Houston."

The Jonas Brothers headlined a Valentine's Day show at Toyota Center and were the opening act on the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Tour. The group's third album, A Little Bit Longer, was released in August and posted first-week sales of more than 525,000 copies. Groove-based single Burnin' Up became the band of brothers' biggest pop hit to date, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The JBros also scored three top-10 albums in one week earlier this year: a self-titled sophomore disc, A Little Bit Longer and the soundtrack to Disney flick Camp Rock.

"I think we've found a real good partnership with the Disney acts, beginning with Hilary Duff, then Miley Cyrus and now the Jonas Brothers," Shafer says.

High School Musical 4 May Be Theatrical Release

Walt Disney Company's highly anticipated "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" hits movie theaters around the globe next week on October 22, with bumper advance ticket sales and plans to keep the $1 billion-plus franchise red-hot with a fourth film.

Disney is considering releasing High School Musical 4 in theaters worldwide. Earlier it was announced that HSM4 would be released as a Disney Channel Original Movie, as the first two installments of the HSM franchise were.

The company has not yet had contract discussions with the actors for a fourth film, set for release in 2010, although it likely will be without Efron and Hudgens and some other key principals.

But Ross said Disney was "very bullish that there is a lot more story to tell about East High. We are going to focus on the new story and the characters and we will go from there."

Disney will factor in more than just box office in deciding whether "High School Musical 4" returns to its cable TV origins or joins big movie franchises like "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "National Treasure," Ross said.

Disney is not too worried that a wholesale cast change will dampen children's devotion to the fictional New Mexico high school because, like the original cast, the "tween" audience is growing up and a new group of young fans awaits.

"I think this franchise is stronger than the individual characters themselves, not that they haven't been hugely popular," said Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University.

"The universe that has been created clearly isn't one that they can populate with the same characters. They grow up."

But Disney sees no reason to retire a property that produced $100 million in operating profit in its first 18 months and stands to produce a similar amount in fiscal 2008 alone.
