Teenager wins My Camp Rock contest and a chance to record Camp Rock single

A teen girl from Camberley, UK said she went "completely blank" when she was crowed the winner of a talent contest on the Disney Channel.

Holly Hull beat off stiff competition in the My Camp Rock competition and secured the victory in a public vote.

She will now record and release a song from the film Camp Rock, starring the Jonas Brothers, which inspired the contest. Her rendition will be shown on Friday, May 1st, 2009 at 5.55pm on the Disney Channel.

Speaking after her victory, the 14-year-old said she was thrilled with the win.

"It was so nerve racking when we were waiting," she said. "I actually felt sick. I cannot remember the moment when I was called, I was blank for about 10 minutes. But now I’m really happy and excited."

Holly was one of eight budding music stars who originally won places on an intensive Camp Rock-style singing and dancing workshop.

They were whittled down to four who went to head-to-head in the Final Jam on the Disney Channel on Friday, with the ultimate winner announced on Saturday morning.

The judging panel included Craig David, choreographer Gary Lloyd, Zoe Tyler, from the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do show, and the head of Walt Disney Records in Europe, which will distribute Holly's winning track.

Huge Disney Channel promotions for Jonas TV series premiere

To promote the new series on tween heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers, one of the hottest music groups in the country, Disney Channel is going to the two platforms the band knows best: radio and the Web.

In a first for a Disney Channel series premiere, the network will partner with sister company Radio Disney to develop 42-station local promotional sweepstakes in support of its May 2 launch of comedy series Jonas.

To support the show, Radio Disney is hosting an “Oh My Jonas” local sweepstakes in 42 Radio Disney markets, which will net the winners a trip for four to attend the final dress rehearsal for the Jonas Brothers’ World Tour 2009. The promotion, which runs through May 17, includes 40 radio spots promoting the series and the sweepstakes.

On the Web, the network will take over YouTube’s home page this week to tout the series premiere. The network will also offer previews of the show and other related video content on YouTube, as well as Jonas Brothers-based sites on Facebook and at jonasbrothers.com.

Disneychannel.com, in a first for a series premiere, is featuring a “party planner” area on the site for the series featuring game ideas, recipes and posters in anticipation of the show’s premiere.

New series "The Wannabes" starring Disney pop sensation "Savvy" nears production

The first television series ever to be completely filmed and produced in the State of Michigan is headed to the metro Detroit area. S3 Entertainment Group is partnering with Stern LeMaire Productions, Inc. to produce a tween sitcom called "The Wannabes".

Although this is not a Disney Channel production (as far as I know), the main actors featured in the half-hour tween sitcom are from the real-life Disney pop sensation "Savvy". In "The Wannabes" series, the teens are desperate to become pop stars, but they attend a strict arts academy boarding school where they are only able to stick to the classics like ballet, instrumental music and Shakespeare.

After being punished to work in a local café, the teens meet the owner's daughter who talks her dad into letting the academy students rock out at the café, but they have to keep their identities a secret by wearing disguises.

The show was created by writer/producer, Doreen Spicer who wrote the Disney Channel's hit movie "Jump In!" The series is directed by Eric Dean Seaton who has worked on other tween hits such as "Hannah Montana", "Sonny with a Chance", "That's So Raven," "Cory in the House" and "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody."

“Savvy and the entire Stern-LeMaire team are extremely excited to be filming our series in Michigan,” stated Chris LeMaire. “We are looking forward to working with the communities and the people to really utilize the great assets that Michigan has to create a dynamic television program that fans will enjoy.”

Shooting for the series will begin Summer, 2009. Because of the generous Michigan film incentives, the show will be entirely produced in state. Hundreds of new jobs will be created during the term of the series and local Michigan talent and crew will be hired.

Jonas Brothers To Host MuchMusic Video Awards

Tween heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers return to Toronto this June as hosts of the MuchMusic Video Awards. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas also will perform at the awards show, which recognizes excellence in Canadian music videos.

They are set to release their fourth studio album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, just ahead of the MMVAs. More than 6,000 screaming fans shut down the streets around MuchMusic headquarters in Toronto last July when the Jonas Brothers made a live appearance.

The MMVA features opportunities for fans to see the stars, either arriving for the awards gala or performing on the streets in downtown Toronto. Nominees for the MMVAs will be announced in May. This year's other performers have yet to be announced.

The Jonas Brothers hosting duties will take place just after their fourth album Lines, Vines and Trying Times is released worldwide and comes right at the beginning of the JoBros world tour, which includes several shows in Canada including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.

Hannah Montana Movie breaks records at the box office opening weekend!

In her second outing on the big screen, Miley Cyrus ruled the box office again as Disney's "Hannah Montana: The Movie" charmed $17.1 million fans on Friday.

Not only did the film's opening day beat out the $8.7 million first day of last year's "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," "Hannah Montana: The Movie" also posted an all-time record for a G-rated live action opener ever, inching out the $17 million earned by Disney's "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" last fall on its first Friday. "Hannah Montana: The Movie" was released in 3,118 theaters yesterday.

"Hannah Montana: The Movie" also charted the second best Friday opening for a feature film released during the Easter weekend, ranking behind 2006's "Scary Movie 4" ($19 million). In addition, the Disney movie was the second-highest opening for a family film (PG or G-rated) released prior to the summer movie season, outperforming the first Friday of Paramount-DreamWorks' "Monsters vs. Aliens" ($16.8 million) and slotting behind Fox's 2006 toon "Ice Age: The Meltdown" ($21.8 million).

Miley Cyrus will begin work soon on another Disney film titled "The Last Song", written by Nicholas Sparks. Principal photography begins summer, 2009 and will run through late August, 2009. The filming locations will be in Savannah, Georgia and other nearby coastal locales, Julie Anne Robinson (Pushing Daisies, Grey's Anatomy, Samantha Who, Coming Down the Mountain) will direct. The film centered on a rebellious young woman who is sent to spend the summer with her estranged father.
